What if the humble coconut could help power a more sustainable future?
From May 19–22, the Island Skies Alliance (ISA), together with partners from government and industry, conducted a site visit across Marinduque under the CocoMar Initiative, advancing the Non-Standard Coconut (NSC) Pre-Feasibility Study. The mission brought together local government leaders, the Philippine Coconut Authority, DENR, and community stakeholders to explore how underutilized coconut resources can create new economic opportunities while supporting sustainability goals.
Across Boac, Gasan, Santa Cruz, and Torrijos municipalities, the discussions highlighted both the challenges faced by coconut farmers from logistics and transport costs to limited processing infrastructure and the immense potential of coconut-based value chains, biomass utilization, and local processing facilities. Encouragingly, strong support was secured from provincial and municipal leaders, reinforcing a shared commitment to turning agricultural waste into economic value and sustainable development opportunities.
For ISA, this visit reflects a broader vision: connecting agriculture, renewable resources, and sustainable aviation pathways through innovative, community-driven solutions. The journey continues as we move toward farmer consultations, data gathering, and deeper stakeholder engagement in the months ahead. 🌱✈️
