Project Feasibility and Development Technical Working Group (TWG)

This key activity and workstreams focus on NbS project identification, carbon accounting, and compliance with CORSIA standards.

Focus

NbS Integration into national CORSIA strategies

    • Map priority ecosystems (e.g., mangroves, forests, peatlands) for NbS interventions using satellite data and field surveys.

    • Quantify carbon sequestration potential using methodologies like Verra’s Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ (JNR) framework.

    • Screen NbS projects for compliance with ICAO’s Emissions Unit Eligibility Criteria, emphasizing jurisdictional REDD+ programs eligible under CORSIA’s 2016–2020 crediting window.

    • Conduct lifecycle analyses (LCAs) to validate emission reductions against CORSIA’s 10-year eligibility rule.

    • Deploy remote sensing and community-led monitoring for real-time data on forest cover and biodiversity metrics.

    • Partner with accredited bodies like TÜV SÜD for third-party verification of carbon offsets.

Key Milestones - Short, Mid and Long-term
2025 - 2027

Project Pipeline Development

Finalize 3–5 NbS pilot sites (e.g., mangrove restoration in the Visayas, agroforestry in Mindanao) compliant with CORSIA’s crediting window eligibility

Strengthen MRV

Participate in ensuring that MRV systems are in place and compliant

2028 - 2030

Carbon Credit Certification

Certify 8–10 NbS projects under CORSIA-approved (or CAAP-endorsed Philippine) standards (e.g., ART/TREES), targeting 2 million tonnes CO2e/year in offsets

2031 - 2050

Emission Reduction Targets

Deliver 15–20 million tonnes CO2e/year in aviation offsets, covering 25% of Philippine carriers’ CORSIA obligations16.
